Man dies, 8 hurt in road mishap

MANILA, Philippines — A man died and eight others were injured after they were hit by a passenger jeepney in Muntinlupa City on Saturday night.

Ace Bicada, 21, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.

Traffic investigators said Bicada was waiting for a ride home in Barangay Tunasan when a jeepney (PYF-948) driven by Philip Villar, 36, struck him.

Eight passengers suffered slight injuries due to the impact. Injured were Daryl Orgen, 23; Wendell Rey Batosingen, 21; Desiree Ann Soliveres, 22; Jheyley Balbedina, 16; Bryan Anthony Espina, 24; Lorenzo Medina, 22; Jaztine Jerota, 27, and Erika Mae Jose, 24.

Villar said he lost control of the brakes.

He is being held by police on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.
