Ex-con on drug list shot dead by cops

MANILA, Philippines — An ex-convict who was on the drug list of the Manila Police District (MPD) died in an alleged gunbattle in Tondo on Sunday night.

Marvin Arsenio, 38, of Mel Alcalde street in Tondo, died at the scene from gunshots to the body. 

Prior to this, members of the Don Bosco police community precinct received a call from a concerned citizen that Arsenio was roaming the street while armed with a gun at around 6:45 p.m.

Responding policemen were about to approach Arsenio when he allegedly opened fire, resulting in a running gunbattle.

Police shot dead Arsenio after he was cornered at a house along Avocet street.

Probers said they recovered a .45-caliber handgun, ammunition and five sachets of shabu from the suspect.

MPD director Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao said Arsenio had served time for illegal drugs.

The suspect was also included in the drug watchlist of Barangay 111 in Tondo.

Authorities said Arsenio was allegedly pushing drugs in the barangay and nearby areas.
