MANILA, Philippines — A jobless man was arrested yesterday for allegedly attempting to set his neighbors’ houses on fire in Barangay Cembo, Makati City.

Christian Paul Orillosa’s neighbors sought police assistance after they saw him allegedly trying to torch their houses, said Southern Police District spokesperson Superintendent Jenny Tecson.

Police officers confiscated a disposable lighter and a container of gasoline from Orillosa, who was found hiding in the bathroom of his house.

Tecson said they are conducting an investigation to determine what drove Orillosa to attempt arson.

Also in Makati, a fire of still undetermined cause broke out in Barangay Guadalupe Viejo yesterday.

The fire broke out at around 6:25 a.m. and reached second alarm before it was put out at around 7:08 a.m., Tecson said.

No one was reported killed or injured.
