Abu Sayyaf bandit surrenders in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — An Abu Sayyaf bandit surrendered in Sulu on Sunday, an official said.

Rear Admiral Rene Medina, Naval Forces Western Mindanao commander, said Basari Sali, 60, a follower of Radullan Sahiron, also turned over a rifle to personnel of the Philippine Marine Ready Force Sulu in Panamao town.

Medina said the surrender followed intensified military operations against Abu Sayyaf bandits in Barangay Bulangsih.

Military offensives to neutralize the Abu Sayyaf are ongoing.
