Another bullying victim in Pangasinan dies

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan, Philippines — A student of this town died on Wednesday, a day after he was reportedly bullied and beaten up by his school mates. 

Kenneth Langit, 19, a Grade 11 student, died while being treated at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City, according to Leo Blaquir, principal of the Mangaldan National High School.

Langit was reportedly beaten up by Grade 12 students George Calimlim, 19; Jayson Soriano, 22, and Jay-Ar Biagtan, 21. The suspects have been arrested. 

Blaquir said it was an isolated incident, adding that both the victim and the suspects have no prior record of misdemeanor in the school. 

“They were both attentive and participated in their respective classes,” Blaquir said. 

He said the three security guards of the school, which has the biggest student population in Pangasinan, did not notice the incident.

Last Jan. 7, Roger Jackson Tabuñar, 11, died after he was reportedly beaten up by his playmates, aged 10 and 11, who dragged him out during a Christmas party in Barangay Salay also of this town on Dec. 28.

Based on the death certificate, Tabuñar’s cause of death was septic shock, with pneumonia as antecedent cause and blunt abdominal trauma as underlying cause.
