Car hits tricycle in Batangas; 5 dead, 10 hurt

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines  —  Five persons died and 10 others were injured when a car collided with a tricycle in Barangay Laiya-Aplaya, San Juan, Batangas, yesterday.

Chief Inspector Rosell Encarnacion, San Juan police chief, said three of the fatalities, Sangguniang Kabataan member Reynald, 20, and student John Eric, 17, both surnamed Gamil, and reflexologist Borito Santos, 44, died on the way to the Batangas Medical Center.

Kim Zaigan, 7, and the driver of the Honda car, John Kelly Villanueva, 23, died while being treated in the same hospital.

The tricycle driver, Levy, 49; Maximo, 53; Vergilio, 50, and Benilda, 41, all surnamed Gamil; call center agent Christian Delacion, 26, and John Michael Rivera remain confined at the Batangas Medical Center.

Kim Bryan, Rosie Diane, also surnamed Gamil, Regie Roncal, 19, James Dimaano, 17, and Harold Moredo were taken to the San Juan Doctors Hospital for treatment.

Encarnacion told The STAR that the driver of the car was drunk when the accident occurred.

In Nueva Ecija, Melinda Domingo, 3, and Jessalyn Lising, 26, died when they were thrown off the road when their tricycles rolled over after colliding with a tractor and another tricycle in Muñoz and Talavera towns, respectively, on Thursday.

Simon Pecdasen was declared dead on arrival in a hospital after the truck he was driving was rearended by another truck along Marcos highway in Barangay Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet.

 Richmond Gonzales fell from a tricycle and was ran over by a sport utility vehicle in Barangay Zone 3, San Mariano, Isabela also on Thursday. – With Raymund Catindig, Artemio Dumlao
