STAR correspondent Rudy Fernandez, 73

MANILA, Philippines — Rudy Fernandez, a correspondent for the Philippine Star, died on Dec. 29, almost a month after he suffered a stroke. He was 73.

Fernandez is survived by his wife Nieva; children Bryan, Alex and Cyrus; daughters-in-law Jercyle and Jas, and granddaughters Xisca, Nayely, Xianne and Xandi.

A multi-awarded journalist, Fernandez covered science, technology, agriculture and related beats for The STAR since the 1990s.

He was among those elevated to the hall of fame in awards given by the Department of Science and Technology.

Fernandez was also a recipient of a special citation at the Catholic Mass Media Awards for biotech reporting.

His remains lie at the Heaven’s Garden in Barangay Años, Los Baños, Laguna.

Interment is on Jan. 5.
