MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) expects “normal traffic” along EDSA to resume on Jan. 3, an official said yesterday.

Bong Nebrija, traffic supervisor for EDSA, said they were anticipating traffic jams along the thoroughfare as travelers would return to Metro Manila after the long holiday break.

Nebrija said they would implement a “no day off, no absent policy” for traffic enforcers deployed along the busiest thorougfare in the metropolis from Dec. 28 to 29 to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles.

He said motorists benefited from a traffic-free EDSA on Christmas.

Travel speed along EDSA on Christmas reached as fast as more than 25 kilometers per hour, according to Nebrija.

“This is expected because of the number of people who spent Christmas in the provinces,” he said.

“Noong Dec. 24 until yesterday lighter na ang traffic as compared to last year,” Nebrija added.
