Romina Cabrera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A police official was killed in an ambush by unidentified assailants in Quezon City on Friday night.

Inspector Romeo Tandas, 49, was driving his Toyota Avanza, with his partner as his passenger, along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay UP Campus when two men on a motorcycle shot at their vehicle at around 5:45 p.m.

Tandas died at the Diliman Hospital from gunshot wounds. His partner survived.

Tandas, who was assigned to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Tactical Operations Center in Camp Karingal, had alleged links to the illegal drug trade, sources said.

Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, QCPD director, said he has formed a task force to investigate Tandas’ killing.
