MANILA, Philippines — Two of three suspects in the murder of an Ateneo graduate student was arrested early Wednesday morning, Director Guillermo Eleazar of the National Capital Region Police Office told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

"The suspects were arrested early this morning in a checkpoint (in Marikina). [One] had a firearm in his waist and part of the firearm was protruding," Eleazar sad in Filipino.

Francis de Leon, 24, was found dead on Saturday, December 1, with multiple stab wounds. His body was found near his home.

De Leon was studying Legal Management at Ateneo de Manila University and was an employee of the Department of Education's disaster management office.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro offered a P500,000 reward on Tuesday for information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The suspects arrested, who are allegedly part of a robbery group, are also wanted in other robber incidences and the killing of a taxi driver several years ago.

Eleazar said he considers this case solved, but the investigation on the suspects' involvement in other crimes will continue.
