2 Abu Sayyaf members slain in Sulu clash with Marines

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed and three others were  arrested following an encounter with Marines in Sulu yesterday.

Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said there was no reported casualty on the government side.

Besana said personnel of the 61st, 62nd and 64th Marine Companies clashed with the bandits led by Radullan Sahiron, Idang Susukan and Almujer Yadah in Barangay Lihbog Kabaw at around 5:08 a.m.

Besana said the offensive was in response to intelligence reports and information provided by local residents on the presence of Abu Sayyaf bandits in the area. 

He said the bodies of the slain bandits and their rifles were recovered. 

Besana said two of those captured were wounded in the clash. They were taken to Camp Teodulfo Bautista in Barangay Busbus, Jolo for treatment. 

The military said there is no letup in military operations to rescue the remaining captives of the Abu Sayyaf.
