MANILA, Philippines — A 13-year-old boy died after he was trapped in his family’s burning house in Quiapo, Manila yesterday.
Firefighters found the body of Alex Lionel Reyes, an elementary student, on the ground floor of the house, according to Fire Chief Inspector Reden Alumno, Manila Bureau of Fire Protection arson investigation head.
Alumno said Reyes was sleeping when the fire spread to his house from a residential building rented by a certain Mary Moral on Carcer street just before 1 p.m.
Around 15 houses were destroyed in the fire, which reached third alarm at around 2 p.m.
Another fire broke out along Arlegui street at around the same time but it was immediately put under control, Alumno said.
Firefighters prevented the flames of the Carcer fire from spreading towards the nearby Nazareth Catholic School. It was put out at past 3 p.m.
