Public urged: Report cops sleeping on duty
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde urged the public to report police officers who are sleeping on the job.
In an interview over dzBB yesterday, he called on the people to help them solve the problem of police officers sleeping while on duty.
“Get their names and inform us,” Albayalde said.
He issued the statement after the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) caught at least 14 police officers sleeping in their patrol vehicles while on duty in different parts of Metro Manilia and adjacent provinces since last month.
IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said they have been receiving reports from citizens about police officers napping inside patrol vehicles.
Police officers caught sleeping on the job could be suspended for two months without pay and face dismissal for committing a similar offense the second time.
