Gunrunner killed, cop wounded in shootout

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines — A suspected gunrunner was killed in an alleged shootout with law enforcers in Matalam town in this province on Friday.

Jessie Catayna, 47, opened fire at police officers serving a warrant of arrest at his residence in Barangay Manubuan, Superintendent Aldrin Gonzales, Soccsksargen police spokesman, said.

Police Officer 2 Joel Quicoy was wounded in the shootout.

Gonzales said a search on Catayna’s house yielded a caliber  .45 pistol and a fragmentation grenade.
