Mild quakes hit Surigao Norte

MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes hit Surigao del Norte yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. 

The tremors, with magnitudes of 4.8 and 4.6, occurred at about 10:16 a.m. and 12:12 p.m., respectively. 

The first quake, which struck 65 kilometers northeast of Burgos town, was felt at Intensity 3 in Burgos, Intensity 2 in Sta. Monica and Intensity 1 in San Benito. 

The epicenter of the second quake was traced 39 kms northeast of General Luna. The tremor was felt at Intensity 3 in Dapa and Intensity 2 in General Luna and San Benito. 

Phivolcs said no damage or aftershocks were expected from the quakes.
