Soldiers, militiamen wounded in clashes with Reds
MANILA, Philippines —Two soldiers were wounded in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Quezon on Friday.
Soldiers of the 85th Infantry Battalion (IB) clashed with the rebels in Sitio Aak Malaki in Barangay Vista Hermosa, Macalelon town, according to reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo.
Lt. Col. Ely Tono, 85th IB commanding officer, said the soldiers were conducting combat operations to secure the military’s community support program, which is being implemented in coordination with the local government unit, when the clash occurred.
Tono said the rebels also suffered an undetermined number of casualties, citing bloodstains on their escape route.
In Albay, Roberto Tripulca and Ivan Napay of the Civilian Armed Auxiliary were wounded in an encounter with communist rebels in Barangay Doña Mercedes in Guinobatan town.
The military said the rebels carried away their wounded comrades as they retreated.
