MPD rescues 7 minors in viral video

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least seven minors were rescued and turned over to social workers after a video of them robbing and dragging an elderly man out of a jeepney in Paco, Manila went viral.

The seven minors, aged 13 to 16 years old, were rescued by police during a follow-up operation, according to Manila Police District Station 5 commander Superintendent Igmedio Bernaldez.

In the video uploaded by Facebook user Nathanial Javier Jamolin, the minors were seen dragging a still unidentified elderly man out of a jeepney at the corner of Taft Avenue and Pedro Gil street to steal his pouch of money Friday afternoon.

Bernaldez asked the public to provide information about the whereabouts of the elderly man in the video so he could help with the investigation.

Jamolin said he uploaded the video, which has garnered over four million views, to warn commuters about children in conflict with the law.

He said he was unable to help the elderly man because he was seated in a bus when he recorded the incident.
