Comelec holds Bangsamoro plebiscite registration
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is holding a special voter registration in areas covered by the plebiscite on the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
James Jimenez, spokesman for the Comelec, said the three-day special registration, which starts today, would complement the satellite registration being conducted in areas covered by the plebiscite.
Jimenez said those who have registered for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections and ongoing voter registration for the elections next year need not register again.
“We want to get as many people registered as possible, thus this special registration,” Jimenez said.
Special registration teams from the Comelec main office will man the special satellite registration centers in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Norte and North Cotabato as well as in Cotabato City, Maguindanao and Isabela, Basilan.
There will be no special registration in Marawi, where barangay and SK elections will be held on Sept. 21.
The plebiscite for the creation of the BARMM will be held on the third Monday of January next year.
