Ex-soldier nabbed for threatening cops

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A former member of the Philippine Army was arrested in Pasay City at past midnight Thursday for allegedly pointing his gun at police officers.

Anti-narcotics police arrested Rex Maderse Correa, 37, when the jobless man shouted invectives at them as they were on their way to a drug sting along Arnaiz Avenue at around 12:10 a.m.

When the lawmen approached Correa, who was drunk, he pulled out his 9mm pistol and aimed it at them.

Police arrested him and two others – vendor Ricky de Jesus, 43, and driver Remuel Tumabing, 41 – who tried to grab Correa from the police.

Correa faces charges of violating the firearms law and resisting arrest while his two companions will be charged with obstruction of apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders.
