MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Barangays 181 and 182 in Caloocan City are asking a real estate developer to allow power and water firms to restore service to households in the area.
Barangay 182 chairman Rowel Brin said the absence of electricity has hampered the delivery of basic services and affected the students of Pangarap Elementary School and Pangarap High School.
“Roads are dark and this has resulted in a series of robberies and medicine and vaccines in the two barangay health centers have spoiled,” Brin said.
The lack of power and water started in mid-August when an electric post along the national highway collapsed, he added.
Residents of Pangarap Village, which straddles the two barangays, are in a land dispute with Carmel Development Inc. (CDI), which they claim has also prevented garbage trucks from collecting trash.
Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan has asked the Manila Electric Co. to restore electricity to the area.
