MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday monitored a low-pressure area 495 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon.

The weather system will bring scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Calabarzon and the Visayas.

“Northern Palawan (Calamian islands), Antique, Occidental Mindoro and Samar provinces will likely experience frequent light to moderate rains and thunderstorms,” the weather bureau said in its bulletin.

Residents near river channels as well as low-lying and mountainous areas are advised against possible flooding and landslides and asked to coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices for updates.

PAGASA said the low-pressure area is expected to dissipate within the next 12 to 24 hours and would be embedded in the trough of Typhoon Jebi.

At 3 p.m. yesterday, the eye of Jebi was estimated at 1,745 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.

With maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness up to 255 kph, the typhoon is moving northwest at 30 kph.
