Wounded NPA rebel surrenders
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A communist guerrilla who was wounded in an encounter with soldiers in Misamis Occidental last Aug. 11, surrendered on Friday.
The rebel, 17, a member of the Western Mindanao Revolutionary Party Committee of the New People’s Army (NPA), clashed with soldiers of the 10th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Hoyohoy, Tangub City.
The surrenderee, who remains confined in a hospital, said he was abandoned by his comrades.
The former rebel will receive P15,000 immediate cash assistance and P50,000 livelihood support, Lt. Col. Ryan Severo, 10th Infantry Battalion commander, said.
