QCPD detainee dies of leptospirosis

MANILA, Philippines — A detainee of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 2 died on Sunday from complications brought by leptospirosis.

Station commander Superintendent Rodrgio Soriano identified the inmate as Mhel Pardilla, 29, who was apprehended on July 31 for playing cara y cruz, an illegal numbers game, in a public place in Barangay Pagong Pag-asa.

Despite efforts by physicians, Pardilla died at around 10 a.m. on Sunday.

In his report, Soriano said they brought Pardilla to the National Kidney Transplant Institute on Aug. 1 at around 5:45 p.m.

“He was diagnosed as having severe leptospirosis and was confined,” he said.
