MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expecting more than two million voters to register for next year’s elections as the continuing  registration resumes on Monday.

“This is like a spillover from the November registration we just had,” James Jimenez, spokesman for the Comelec said yesterday.

Jimenez said a total of 455,927 persons aged 18 and above registered for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections from Nov. 6 to 25.

Jimenez said the continuing registration is until Sept. 29 to ensure that as many voters could participate in the mid-term elections.

He said those who voted during the SK elections and turned 18 this year need not register again as their records would be automatically transferred to the Comelec database.

Records show that 1,638,350 voters aged 15 to 17 participated in the SK elections.
