Workers entitled to double pay on Independence Day

MANILA, Philippines — Double pay awaits workers who opt to work today, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.

June 12 has been declared as a regular holiday to allow Filipinos to observe the country’s Independence Day.

In an advisory yesterday, DOLE said an employee who will render services during a regular holiday shall be paid 200 percent of their daily pay for the first eight hours of work.

DOLE said work in excess of eight hours shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the worker’s hourly rate.

For work done during a regular holiday that falls on a rest day, an employee shall be paid 230 percent of their regular salary for that day for the first eight hours.

According to DOLE,  work done in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the rest day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

Workers, DOLE said, who choose not to report for work today are still entitled to get 100 percent of their daily pay.

DOLE directed employers to strictly comply with the pay rules and grant the right wages for the holiday.
