2 robbers slain in Pasig

MANILA, Philippines — Two of four motorcycle-riding robbers were killed when they allegedly engaged police in a shootout shortly after they held up a man in Pasig City on Tuesday night.

Police have yet to identify the suspects who were pronounced dead on arrival at the Pasig City General Hospital.

Chief Superintendent Rey Biay, director of the Eastern Police District, said the incident occurred along Jenny’s Avenue Extension in Barangay Maybunga at around 11:45 p.m.

Police said Roel de Jesus was walking along Mabini street in Barangay Kapasigan when the suspects on two motorcycles robbed him at gunpoint.

The suspects took the victim’s bag containing P2,000 in cash and mobile phone before fleeing.

De Jesus sought help from a policeman who passed by the area.

The lawman known only as PO2 Bula called Senior Inspector Mario Benito of the Police Community Precinct 4, who led a team that chased the suspects.

Instead of yielding, Benito said the suspects opened fire at police who retaliated.

The two other suspects managed to escape.
