MANILA, Philippines — With the opening of classes today, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers to honor the 20-percent student discount, even on weekends and holidays.
LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada said students could enjoy the discount every day, as long as they present an identification card.
The LTFRB’s Memorandum Circular 2017-024 states that the student discount covers all PUVs, including transport network vehicle service units, jeepneys, buses, taxis and UV Express vans.
The new circular effectively amended a 2005 order that states students can only avail of the discount from Mondays to Fridays of the school year.
However, post-graduate students, including those taking up medicine, law and master’s and doctorate degrees, still cannot avail of the fare discount.
