5 dead in Surigao road mishap
MANILA, Philippines — Five persons died in a collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a pickup in Alegria, Surigao del Norte on Saturday.
The fatalities – Joseph Evan Arbis, 55; Joe Basil Viray, 22; Donafel Granada, 20; Bryle Viray, 19, and Max Russel Bayutas, 15 – were declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
The victims, who were in a Mitsubishi Fusion, were traveling in Barangay San Pedro when they were hit by an Isuzu D-Max at around 4:30 p.m., according to Chief Superintendent Noli Romana, director of the Caraga police.
Driver Yul Arbis lost control of the wheel, causing the SUV to hit a tree.
Arbis and his relative Yul Ivan Arbis, 18, and Rusty Bayutas, were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
Meanwhile, the pickup fell onto the roadside injuring its driver Manolito Acuzar, 51, and his passengers Genegeo Mission, 52, and Ricares Limbatao, 20.
They were taken to the Caraga Regional Hospital in Placer town for treatment.
