Barangay execs urged to install CCTV systems
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) yesterday asked newly elected barangay officials to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in their jurisdictions as a deterrent to crime.
NCRPO chief Director Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said the CCTVs would boost the government’s campaign against crimes, especially the war on drugs.
“If every barangay in Metro Manila would install CCTVs, this would be a big help in maintaining peace and order in the community as criminals would think twice or be discouraged from committing crimes knowing that they are being watched,” Cascolan said.
He urged the winners in the barangay elections to prioritize the installation of CCTVs in their areas.
Cascolan said CCTV footage have been effective in preventing crimes.
