2 IS terror suspects nabbed in Laguna
MANILA, Philippines — Two men with alleged links to the Islamic State (IS) were arrested in Laguna on Thursday.
Jimuel Dizon, alias Amir, and Eddie Boy Bermejo, alias Abdullah, were collared at their residences in Barangay Mamatid, Cabuyao and Tagapo, Sta. Rosa, respectively.
Operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines conducted the raids based on search warrants issued by local courts.
Police said Dizon and Bermejo, who are believed to be members of the Rajah Sulaiman Movement, were under surveillance for several months.
Three .45-caliber pistols, a. 38-caliber revolver, two fragmentation grenades, a laptop, two improvised explosive devices, various types of ammunition and IS flags were reportedly recovered from the suspects. – With Ed Amoroso
