Albayalde assures PNP: Promotions will be fair
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde yesterday assured fellow police officials of fairness in promotions and transfers.
Albayalde said an oversight committee is tasked to study applications for promotion and requests for transfer to other positions.
While it is normal for some officials, including his classmates from the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986 to request for promotion, Albayalde insisted he will remain impartial.
“That’s very normal,” Albayalde said in press briefing in Camp Crame. “It’s just like you are more than brothers.”
However, he stressed the decision is not only with him but also based on the recommendations of the oversight committee.
If a certain police official is not qualified for his desired post, Albayalde said other positions are available that could be commensurate to an individual’s capacity.
Albayalde gave the assurance after rumors of reported grumblings by some officials circulated through text messages yesterday.
He ordered a review of police officials who are up for promotion to determine if they are really qualified.
“If they are still not qualified, then we will not force it,” said Albayalde.
Albayalde said what he wants from police officers is obedience and not loyalty.
“We expect obedience. We expect everybody to toe the line,” he said.
