Drug surrenderee slain; 9 arrested

MANILA, Philippines — A man who surrendered under Oplan Tokhang in 2016 was shot dead in San Juan, La Union yesterday.

Nine other drug suspects, including a police officer, were arrested in anti-drug operations in Iloilo, South Cotabato, Bulacan, Pangasinan and Isabela on Monday.  

Michael Macusi, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Sudipen, La  Union, was in a bus when an unidentified passenger shot him in the head before alighting in Barangay Taboc at about 9:30 a.m. The suspect fled on a motorcycle driven by a man wearing a jacket and helmet.

Macusi was declared dead on arrival at the Bacnotan District Hospital.

In Iloilo City, Police Officer 2 Stephen Magno, 41, was arrested at a resort in Barangay Calaparan after selling two sachets of shabu P2,000 to undercover agents.

Police said 33 sachets of shabu, P2,000 in marked money and drug paraphernalia were among those recovered from Magno.

Paolo Andrei Levi Simborio, 30, alias Biboy, and Henry Resula, 27, alias John Rey, were arrested after selling shabu to police officers who posed as buyers in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.  Abel Cabunuan, 27, and Jayson Oliza, 23, were apprehended in Balagtas town.

Seventeen sachets of shabu were reportedly recovered from the suspects.

“High-value” suspects Ibrahim Lucas and Muhaliden Madag, were collared in a sting in  Koronadal, South Cotabato. They yielded P30,000 worth of shabu, two .45 caliber pistols and a fragmentation grenade, police said.
