MMDA to use no-contact apprehension vs illegal parking
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to use its no-contact apprehension policy in cracking down on owners of illegally parked vehicles, an official said yesterday.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said the Metro Manila Council, composed of the metropolis’ 17 mayors, approved the move during a meeting on Thursday.
“There remains a proliferation of illegally parked motor vehicles along the national, city and municipal roads of Metro Manila despite earnest efforts exerted by the MMDA and the Metro Manila mayors in road clearing,” Lim said.
Lim said using the no-contact policy would help prevent arguments between traffic enforcers and motorists.
In 2017, Lim said the MMDA apprehended 45,236 motorists for illegal parking. Under the MMDA’s policy, violators will be notified of their offenses, which can be contested before the agency’s adjudication board.
