LTFRB mulls franchise for tourist vans
LTFRB member Aileen Lizada said they recently conducted dialogues with operators of around 100 tourist vans in Siargao.

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) plans to issue franchises to operators of tourist vans plying island resorts.

LTFRB member Aileen Lizada said they recently conducted dialogues with operators of around 100 tourist vans in Siargao.

Lizada said the LTFRB is helping the operators form a cooperative, but they should secure an endorsement from the Department of Tourism (DOT) before they can be issued franchises.

She said they would sign a memorandum of agreement with the DOT to regulate the operation of tourist vans.

Lizada said the LTFRB would give van owners enough time to legalize their operations, after which  a ban on ”colorum” vehicles would be imposed.

She said the LTFRB would also hold dialogues with operators of tourist vans in  Coron, Boracay, El Nido and other top tourist destinations.
