Strong quake hits Marinduque
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5 earthquake shook parts of Southern Luzon yesterday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake, which occurred at about 5:39 p.m., was traced 32 kilometers southwest of Boac, Marinduque.
The quake was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Boac; Intensity 4 in Batangas City and Intensity 3 in Lipa and Malvar in Batangas.
Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks.
A magnitude 3.6 earthquake also shook Batanes at around 6:20 a.m. The epicenter of the quake was located two kilometers southeast of Mahatao town.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 3 in Basco, which is considered weak.
No damage or aftershocks were expected from the quake.
