Davao, Western Visayas house helpers to get wage hike

MANILA, Philippines — Domestic workers in Western Visayas and Davao will get a salary increase starting Dec. 16, their respective regional wage boards announced yesterday.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Davao said the minimum wage for house helpers in chartered cities and first class municipalities in the region will increase by P1,000 or from P2,000 to P3,000.

The salary of domestic workers in other municipalities in the region will increase to P2,000 from P1,500. 

In Western Visayas, domestic workers in cities and first class municipalities will receive a minimum wage of P3,500 or P500 higher.

The minimum salary of those working in other municipalities will increase by P1,500 or from P2,000 to P3,500.

The wage boards said the new wage rates would apply to all domestic workers, whether in a live-in or live-out arrangement such as general house helpers, nannies, cooks, gardeners,  laundry persons or those who regularly perform domestic work in a household on an occupational basis.

The wage orders do not cover service providers, family drivers, children under foster family arrangement and those who perform work occasionally or sporadically.
