2 bishops die of cancer
MANILA, Philippines - Two Catholic bishops died of cancer on Saturday, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced yesterday.
In a post on social media, the CBCP said military Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak, 72, died of pancreatic cancer at the Cardinal Santos Hospital.
Bishop Rodolfo Beltran, 68, of San Fernando, La Union died of pancreatic cancer at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital.
As a military bishop, Tumulak served as ecclesiastical pastor of military and police personnel, their dependents and civilian employees.
At the time of his death, Tumulak was chairman of CBCP’s episcopal commission on prison pastoral care.
Beltran was on his fourth year in San Fernando. He was bishop of Bontoc-Lagawe for six years before he was appointed to San Fernando in 2012.
Tumulak’s wake will be at the Shrine of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus in Pasay City.
Beltran’s remains would be brought to San Fernando City, the CBCP said.
