Barangay captain nabbed for guns

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines – A village chief was arrested in Binalonan town yesterday for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Manuel Pineda of Barangay Santiago yielded a caliber .45 pistol, an improvised shotgun, a caliber .22 rifle, a rifle grenade and various ammunition, said Senior Police Officer 4 Joey Barlaan of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Pangasinan.

Barlaan said they raided Pineda’s residence after receiving intelligence reports that the barangay captain is keeping several firearms. The raid was based on a warrant issued by Burgos Regional Trial Court Branch 70 Judge Ellen Aguilar.
