Rody takes over ARMM development projects
MANILA, Philippines - President Duterte is taking over the supervision of development projects in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and other parts of the region to fast-track growth.
Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno said on Saturday Duterte wanted to improve the lives of people in the ARMM by managing government projects in the area.
Duterte revealed his intention to personally supervise projects in Mindanao during a recent Cabinet meeting, Sueno said.
“He is taking over. What he told us is he will be the project manager of the development funds and projects in Mindanao,” Sueno told journalists in an interview during the 37th Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) alumni homecoming in Silang, Cavite.
Sueno revealed the President’s plan in his speech at the event where he was the guest of honor and speaker.
“There is no need for an executive order. The President does not want a part of the population lagging behind,” Sueno said.
The ARMM covers the provinces of Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and Marawi City.
It is one of the most impoverished regions in the country, mainly because of lawlessness due to the presence of rebel groups and the terrorist Abu Sayyaf, which is involved in kidnapping and other violent activities.
The government is working on a peace agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to bring lasting peace and development in Mindanao.
