Students demand free education
MANILA, Philippines - Students in different universities and colleges across the country staged a walkout from their classes yesterday to call for free education for all.
They also called on the government to resume peace talks with communist rebels and denounced alleged human rights violations against militants and political prisoners.
In a statement, Kabataan party-list Rep. Sarah Elago criticized the Duterte administration for breaking its promise, referring to the position of some Cabinet members against the free tuition policy that was included in the 2017 budget.
The government’s economic managers earlier said a free tuition policy is “anti-poor” as it will not help poor Filipinos who are currently not enrolled in college.
