'Lawin' traverses Apayao; to exit PAR tonight

MANILA, Philippines — Supertyphoon Lawin (international name: Haima) is now traversing the province of Apayao after making landfall over Peñablanca, Cagayan at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

The supertyphoon packs maximum sustained winds of up to 225 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 315 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 2 a.m. severe weather bulletin on Thursday.

Meanwhile, moderate to occasionally heavy rains will be experienced elsewhere. 

Lawin is forecast to move west northwest at 25 kph. Its eye was spotted in the vicinity of Solana, Cagayan at 1 a.m. on Thursday.

PAGASA said the supertyphoon is expected to exit the landmass via Ilocos Norte between 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday. It is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday evening.

The state weather bureau has already lifted the tropical cyclone warning signal over Albay. Signals in other areas in Luzon, however, remains.
