MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government has stepped up preparations for this rainy season.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said the city government has implemented proactive preparations and contingency plans prior to the declaration of the rainy season.

These preparations, she said, include the clearing of the city’s waterways to prevent street flooding.

“The rainy season has always been a cause of worry to our constituents. We want to relieve them of that uneasiness through the proper preparations and contingency plans for any untoward incident during this kind of season,” said Mayor Cayetano.

Cayetano said part of the city’s preparation included the launching of city’s Task Force Flood Control last March.

The task force aims to prevent flooding of low-lying streets that would also cause the spread of diseases like dengue. Hundreds of personnel were deployed to both districts of the city in the implementation of the programs under Task Force Flood Control.

According to the Taguig Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO), the city is coordinating with barangay officials and street sweepers to conduct a twice-a-month cleanup drive in their areas.

Part of the clean-up drive include the cleaning of main streets, declogging of drainage systems and segregation of household wastes for proper disposal.
