Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Office of the Ombudsman has announced the filing of new graft charges against a former governor of Misamis Oriental who was convicted of malversation.

Antonio Calingin will be indicted for allegedly failing to liquidate cash advances amounting to P500,000, which was used for the registration of the Misamis Oriental Telephone System Inc. in June 2002.

Jusie Roxas, former manager of the telephone firm, was also named respondent in the case.

The Sandiganbayan convicted Calingin in December 2014 for not returning two government vehicles assigned to his office.

He was sentenced to 18 years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of P2,082,385. He was also perpetually disqualified from holding public office.
