LGUs urged to open more 'Mabuhay' lanes

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is urging local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to open more “Mabuhay” or alternative routes in Metro Manila in time for the Christmas rush.

"Kung manggagaling sa kanila (LGUs) 'yung recommendation na gawing Mabuhay Lanes 'yung particular road na 'yun malaking tulong po 'yun," Carlos said.

The Mabuhay lanes, which cover 17 roads, are alternative routes for motorists to the 23.8-kilometer EDSA and covers the cities of Mandaluyong, San Juan, Makati, Manila, and Quezon City.

Carlos also called on LGUs to continue reminding motorists and residents in their respective areas that the identified alternate routes should be kept free of road obstructions and illegally parked vehicles between 6 am 9 p.m. every day.

Carlos said the MMDA in coordination with the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group would continue to remove road obstructions and tow away illegally parked vehicles along the Mabuhay lanes.

Earlier, Secretary to the Cabinet Jose Rene Almendras said the clearing of the identified alternativee or “Mabuhay” lanes across Metro Manila will continue until the term of the present administration ends on June 30 next year.

“There will be absolutely no parking on the Mabuhay lanes and on the other streets and lanes that we will be identifying. We must recover the roads while we wait for the infrastructure projects. One solution to solving the problem of traffic in Metro Manila is recovering the streets,” Almendras said.
