Lawyer shot dead, another hurt in Mandaue ambush

MANILA, Philippines — A lawyer was shot dead on the spot in an ambush in Mandaue City on Thursday.

Unidentified gunmen killed lawyer Amelie "Am-am" Ocañada-Alegre, 35, along Catalino Street in Barangay Looc in Mandaue City, while companion Briccio Boholst, 55, also a lawyer, suffered a gunshot wound in the right thigh, according to a report from The Freeman.

Alegre and Boholst's staff member Anthony Pino was also shot in the abdomen.

Police said Alegre was driving a gray BMW along Catalino Street when they were followed by two men on a black motorcycle.

The Freeman report noted that the victims were in a vehicle just several meters away from the house of Boholst when the suspects wearing full face helmets and black jackets attacked them.

Boholst was once the city administrator of Mayor Jonas Cortes from 2007 up to 2010. He also became president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines's Cebu City Chapter in 2007.
