10 houses razed in Makati early morning fire

MANILA, Philippines - Three people were injured in a fire that struck a residential area in Barangay San Antonio in Makati City leaving 10 houses razed.

Makati Fire Marshal Ricardo Perdigon identified those slightly injured as Roberto Alba, 60; Evangeline Alba, 57; and a Senior Fire Officer 3 Iguid, 40.

Perdigon said the fire started at about 12:55 a.m. and swiftly razed the row of houses made of mostly light materials along St. Paul St.

He said the fire reached the third alarm before it was contained by responding firefighters from the Makati Central Fire Station and by volunteer firefighters from Pasig City at around 1:30 a.m. The fire was put out at 1:50 a.m.

Perdigon said the cause of the fire – the first reported for the year in Makati - is still under probe by arson investigators.

The damage caused by the fire was initially estimated by Perdigon at around P500,000. - with a report from Jona Espejo
