Man wanted for gold thefts nabbed in resort

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines – A security officer of a mining firm in this province, wanted for gold bar thefts, has been arrested in a posh island resort in Palawan.

The suspect, Raymund Frigillana Rosete, 35, security officer of Lepanto Consolidated Mining Co. in Mankayan town, was arrested on the strength of a warrant issued by Judge Agapito Laoagan of the Benguet Regional Trial Court Branch 64.

Rosete was charged with four counts of qualified theft several months ago. He went into hiding last February.

Laoagan revived the arrest warrant against Rosete last month after favoring Lepanto Consolidated in its review of thefts of P1,709,749 worth of gold early this year from the company’s mill.
