DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Three people died while 20 others were injured when their truck fell off a bridge in the town of Kitaotao in Bukidnon Sunday afternoon.
The victims, reportedly members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, were on their way home to Sto. Tomas in Davao del Norte from a congregation in Valencia town, also in Bukidnon, when the accident took place.
The fatalities were identified as Renario Geponia, Rose Robina and a certain “Sulad.â€
Truck driver Ramil Dungog reportedly lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to fall off a bridge and into a river in Barangay Siguda.
The injured passengers were brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for treatment.
Cop dead in Bulacan road mishap
In Bulacan, a police officer died after a dump truck hit him as he was crossing the highway in the city of San Jose Del Monte over the weekend.
Police Officer 1 Mark Stewart Martinez, 28,was crossing the Quirino Highway in Barangay Maharlika when he was hit by a Hyundai truck with license plate UQY-774 driven by Reany Acob, 33, said Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Divina, officer- in-charge of the Bulacan police.
Martinez was rushed to the Sapang Palay District Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Divina said Acob was arrested by members of the San Jose Del Monte police station after the accident.
He said Acob would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
Meanwhile in Iloilo, couple Ramon and Aniceta Navarro, and their granddaughter Margaret died after their motorcycle collided with an owner-type jeep in Barangay Buyu-an, Tigbauan Sunday.
The victims were declared dead-on-arrival at the Guimbal District Hospital.
A report from the Tigbauan police said jeepney driver Fritz Durano, 37, was driving home when he lost control of the wheel and crashed into the motorcycle of the victims. – With Ric Sapnu, Jennifer Rendon
