2 Surigao Sur barangay execs killed

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ Two Surigao del Sur barangay officials – a village chief in Madrid town and a councilman in Cantilan town – were gunned down in the past few days.

According to the Madrid police, Ariel Guillen Buniel, 28, chairman of Barangay San Vicente, was shot dead by a lone gunman with a .45-caliber pistol right in front of his house early Saturday morning.

In Cantilan town, meanwhile, Rosebelt Rubi Ravelo, 32, councilman of Barangay Cabas-an, was also killed with a .45-caliber pistol at the village social hall last Friday night.

The killings bring to six the number of elected barangay officials slain in the Caraga region this year.
