MANILA, Philippines - Eight people were confirmed killed and 21 more were injured to continuous rains in several parts of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
The NDRRMC said that continuous rains that have been hitting at least eight regions in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao have caused landslides and flashfloods.
"Low pressure areas were embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone affecting several regions of the country (within the month of July till August)," NDRRMC reported.
Siblings Ayen, 6 and Agustin Kaluuyan, 13 were killed in a landslide in Barangay Limpapa, Zamboanga City, while Tasvia Salatan, 38, drowned in Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte.
Three-year-old Marianne Kate Galaez drowned in Calinog, Iloilo, while Monita Pabilona, 84, also passed away in a drowning incident in Calinog, Iloilo.
Siblings Alain Jan, 7 and Aime Gomez, 9, residents of of Lezo, Aklan were also reported killed.
Flooding in Sarangani Province and South Cotabato also left 11 people injured and nine more were hurt in a landslide incident in Laguna.
Pulina Sumimba, 45, of Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte, meanwhile, who was swept by a flashflood remains missing.
The NDRRMC also reported that a total of 99,762 families have been affected and 39 houe were destroyed and 147 more were damaged by the severe weather conditions in Regions IV-A, IV-B, VI, VII, IX, X, XII and ARMM.
